New Hong Kong Duck Eating House @ Miri

 3-star2
Location: at Boulevard Commercial Centre, Miri
 DSC00696
Quite interesting name, New Hong Kong Duck Eating House, I guess its signature dish will be the Hong Kong style roasted duck. It serves not just roasted duck and chicken rice, but also some oriental dishes from wok and some hawker style food as well.

Roasted Duck Rice  RM 5.50
The duck meat was a bit dry and did not have much taste of duck. Even served with sauce, I still felt that this plate of duck rice was too dry to chew.

Roasted Pork Rice  RM 4.50
I love roasted pork. The skin of the roasted pork seem crunchy, but they cut too flimsy, unable to taste its crunchiness.
DSC00700
As usually, there will be a bowl of soup served together with the rice, but this soup was too salty.

Ling Garden @ Miri

 4-star2
Location: Krokop 10, Krokop wet market, pasar, Chan Furniture, Happy Garden, Krokop badminton court
DSC00689
Ling Garden located very near to the market, so it will be a little difficult to look for a parking place especially during morning. What attract me to this restaurant is its Hainan Chicken rice.
DSC00694
Hainan chicken rice set RM 4, with a plate of rice, chicken, soup and its chillies sauce.
Would like to mention on its chillies sauce, for those like spicy should try on it, because its chillies sauce really taste good. Hainan style chicken rice special with its rice, where they will need to sauté the garlic or onions with chicken oil, adding in rice and continue stir fried, pour in chicken soup and wait for it to be cooked. This is the normal way of cooking the Hainan style chicken rice.
The rice was soft, smell and taste good, with it chicken meat plus some of the chicken “juice”, this plate of chicken rice was really wonderful. Its soup was tasty but too monotonous, if there were some veggie inside the soup will be more perfect.

Hainan Chicken meat

Another plate of Hainan Chicken meat
Chicken meat was soft and smooth, and you can see from the photos, all meats were “thick” enough, thus really worth to eat and yummy.

DSC00708
Bak Kut Teh was from another stall in Ling Garden restaurant. This bowl of bak kut teh was individual set, with mix of pork rib, three layer pork meat, intestines, liver, plus veggie and bean curd puff. How was the taste? Well, I would say moderate, not too impressive but still acceptable.
DSC00709
Something special here, its rice was served with fried pork fat and onion, Waooo.. looks crunchy and yummy to me. Yeah, really make the simple white rice more attractive and smell good. Although is yummy but advise not to eat too much of fried pork fat.

Restaurant Ah Chuan @ Pertama Complex, KL

3-star2
Location: Inside Pertama Complex, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahaman, Kuala Lumpur, next to SOGO KL
Pertama Complex is one of the earlier or known as the first shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur. It located at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, in a high density traffic area, nearby the well known Sultan Abdul Samad Building at Merdeka Square and Sogo Shopping Mall. In Pertama Complex, there are many shops that are selling sportswear, photographic equipments, handphone, shoes, trophies, watches, some branded jeans and clothing at an affordable prices. You may drive and park at the Pertama Complex parking lot or get there by public transport: Star LRT (Rapid KL – Ampang Line), get down at Bandaraya station, Pertama Complex is just next to SOGO shopping mall.
DSC00813
Restaurant Ah Chuan is located at the top floor inside the Pertama Complex. Usually the restaurant will be crowded with people during lunch time 12pm to 2pm, as there are many offices, especially two large banks (UOB and CIMB headquarter) located nearby Pertama Complex. Previously I worked nearby the complex, thus this restaurant is one of my best choice for lunch, as it sell variety of foods: rice, porridge, and different kind of noodles.

Economy rice – have lots of choices.

Bitter Melon Fish Ball Glass Noodles

Bitter Melon Fish Meat Glass Noodles
Something special to me, bitter melon in soup with noodles. You may choose in meehun, mee or Teared Noodles (板面). Although there are lot of bitter melon, but the soup was not bitter at all. There are bitter melon, fish meat, pork ball, eggs inside this bowl of noodles. Bitter melon is quite good for health, for those who like bitter melon may try on this.

Tomyam Glass Noodles

Tomyam Glass Noodles

Every time I smell its tomyam, I will certainly salivate because it is my favourite. Compare with other restaurant, Ah Chuan’s Tomyam has more ingrediants: Pork ball, chicken meat, yuba, mushroom and tomatoes. Not every restaurant serve Tomyam with glass noodles, for my personal preference, glass noodles really suit well with tomyam soup. Its tomyam soup taste sour and spicy, feel good after having this bowl of tomyam noodles.

Why the tomyam noodles so spicy? See how many big chilies I found in the soup.

Buffet Steamboat @ Japan 23 BBQ Steamboat, Setapak, KL

 3-star2
Location: at CenterMart, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, Danau Kota, across the road from Platinum Point, may enter through Jalan Genting Kelang or Jalan Usahawan
DSC02391
Steamboat is my favourite, it will be good with BBQ, and if there is buffet style BBQ Steamboat, then this will definitely
suit my stomach, because I can eat as much as I can without counting how much I should pay.
DSC02382
There are some fresh seafood, but I guess should need additional charge for this.
DSC00800
There were many different kind of snails, you can pick as many as you like.
DSC02386
Different kind of choices: Japanese tofu, white tofu, mushrooms, fish ball, flammulina, different meat like chicken, pork, lamb, beef, and some meats were marinated for BBQ.
DSC00802  DSC00803
Also had those we usually have for steamboat: sausage, ham, fish cake, prawns (not fresh in tank), oysters, etc.
Not only that, those who are too hungry and can’t wait for steamboat, there are some cooked foods here: shark fin, fried nuggets, fried meehun and mee, sushi, cakes, and fruits.
DSC02387
Each person entitled for 2 fresh prawns which included in your payment, will need to charge extra if you want more. Here are the prawns that were still in the fish tank.
DSC_0237  DSC_0239
Can you see how big and how fresh the prawns were. These prawns were still “jumping” inside the basket and you will need to be careful when putting it into the soup, because it may “jump” out of the bowl.

DSC_0241
Getting started. You can take your own sauce, like chillies and soy sauce, but don't forget to take butter for BBQ and sesame oil for the steamboat.

Enjoy Mummy’s Dishes @ Miri

3-star2
DSC00047
Location: Jalan Merpati, Opposite Imperial Hotel

Mummy’s Dishes 家常饭, a warm little restaurant that recall our memory of taste of our mother’s dishes. Mummy’s Dishes located opposite of Imperial Hotel, same row with Anakku shoplot. It is a bit difficult to locate the restaurant at night, because there are no lights on its shop sign.

Since it is called “Mummy’s Dishes”, most of the dishes in the menu are what we usually cook at home. There are only few choices in the menu, but some maybe special that are not easy to find at other restaurants.
DSC00779
Ginger Soup with Rice 家姜麻饭 RM 5.50

This is a dish that suitable for women who are in confinement – those who just delivered baby, chicken soup with large of gingers.

Very strong smell of ginger and wine, actually I couldn't able to accept the taste of it because really choke my nose but I guess this dish was quite good for health, is good to try.
DSC00780
Old Cucumber Soup 老黄瓜汤 RM 3.50

A very traditional home-made soup, taste good as it had cooked very well, just a bit oily. What inside the soup : old cucumber, spareribs, squid, and jujube, made it tasty especially to those who like soups.
